May the 4th Be With You!
Tess Jewell-Larsen | MAY 3, 2021

I love that it’s already May: the beautiful Spring weather (I’m currently sitting on the terrace soaking up the morning sun), the longer days, the fact that my little seedlings are growing and almost ready to be planted outside.
If you join in on the weekly yoga classes, you probably already know that one of my starters, a bean plant, decided to grow upside down! He was getting pretty lost, but with a little helping hand (me digging him up and flipping him around so his roots are planted down and his green leafy head going up) he seems to be thriving. (Picture above!)
It really got me thinking about how much it helps to have support from those around us. Maybe we, just like my little seedling, get a bit turned up-side-down for whatever reason, and it’s with the help and support of our friends, family and communities that right us again… or at least give us a shoulder to lean on so we can pull ourselves up.
Two days a year ago, was the first day we were let out of the house to go for walks after two months of total lockdown here in Spain. Those two months shut away inside weren’t the easiest, mentally and physically, for a lot of people. And for those who had no choice but to continue to work, who didn’t have the luxury to be able to stay inside, it was even scarier. They were scary, difficult times. And they showed me how important it is to have people that you can rely on, how helpful it is to know that you have a support system around you.
And while for us, a full year later, things are looking to start truly opening up again, we look to the East and see places like India suffering, completely overwhelmed by numbers that are skyrocketing and not enough supplies to support them. Perhaps you, like me, have dear friends and/or family that are living the current nightmare in India, but even if you don’t, I hope you spend a moment or two to send love and healing thoughts towards India and all other other communities that are still being ravaged by the pandemic.
If you would like to, and are able to, support India in other ways a good place to start is https://www.giveindia.org.
For fun, in celebration of May 4th and being silly with Star Wars themes, last year during lockdown I filmed a short 12 minute kids yoga video. No matter if you're child, adult, or child and parent, you can still join in the fun on YouTube!
This month I am dedicating it to soma, our inner nectar that rejuvenates, heals, and uplifts. It’s so important that we not only support those around us, but also ourselves. And so I’ll share with you something by Dr. Vasānt Lad, Ayurvedic Physician and Professor.
“In the beginning it is a drop.
Drop becomes drip,
Drip becomes flow, and
Flow becomes flood and
flood becomes rush.
Then you will experience profound peace in the chest
and along with that peace,
There is love.”
Here are the different ways you can join me this month!
