I had two goals for March:

1) hold a 5-minute meditation every day on Instagram Live, and

2) get some of my writing published.

I accomplished both! And I am incredibly proud of myself.

It's been a long time since I wrote anything for a professional publication and I wasn't entirely sure what I should write, I just knew I wanted to write something. Well, throughout the month of daily Live meditation, I had a fair few people tell me that meditation wasn't their thing, they couldn't get into it, or they didn't think it was right for them. I found all these comments pretty interesting and I thought, why not write about that? The reasons people don't meditate with my responses (backed up by science) to them.

(And I'd like to point out here, that in being consistent with one goal it help me achieve the other!)

Thus my first published article—and my first article about the world of Yoga—in years came about:

"Meditation is for Monks" & 9 Other Reasons Not To Meditate article by Tess Jewell-Larsen on Elephant Journal

If you've ever thought to yourself, meditation isn't for me because...

  • It’s for monks not for every day people.
  • It’s boring.
  • I don’t have time.
  • It can be uncomfortable and possibly even trigger past traumas.
  • I can’t relax, I’m too tense.
  • It has spiritual or religious connotations.
  • It’s selfish.
  • It’s doing nothing for me.
  • I don’t like it.
  • I don’t know how.

Then I'd love for you to head on over to Elephant Journal, read the article, and then get back to me. Did I convince you to give it a try? Do you agree/disagree with any or all of the points I make?
