Happy Autumn Equinox!

I love autumn. It’s a beautiful season. And while I adore each season in its own right, I’d argue that autumn is my favorite: the ethereal change of colors in the natural world, the cool, crisp air, the crunching fallen leaves under foot, cozy nights-in with candles burning, and the comfort of snuggling into heavy blankets.

This photo is from our walk today up around Mirador del Fitu, or the Viewpoint of Fitu. It’s a beautiful spot that, when it’s not clouded in like it was today, you can see up to the picturesque Picos de Europa and down to the Mar Cantabrico (Bay of Biscay) and coastal towns like, La Isla and Colunga.

Walking around Fitu in the misty pine groves and heather and rock laden fields, made me feel like a woodland sprite. It was easy to imagine the ringing bells from the nearby grazing cattle and horses was fae music.

The yoga pose is a crescent lunge with eagle arms variation. The pose strengthens and stretches legs and calves along with the highs, hips, shoulders and upper back. It works on and improves concentration and balance. Coming onto the pads of the feet makes balance a bit trickier, so I recommend first trying with your front foot down and then, when you feel confident in the position, try lifting your front heel up. Do pose on both sides, and switching the arms, so as to balance the effects of the pose equally throughout the body.

Be careful with this pose if you have knee, ankle, or shoulder injuries. Always pay attention to your breath and body, and find what works for you at that moment.
