Do as the Spanish Do in August: Relax & Play
Tess Jewell-Larsen | JUL 31, 2022

In Spain, August is all about relaxing, putting your feet up, and playing. A lot of that comes from the fact that most of the country in August is unbearably HOT! In Asturias we’re protected from most of that heat by the mountain ranges which keep us relatively cooler and a whole lot greener. Actually, much of Spain makes their way up north to hide out from the heat.
In July and especially August our little coastal city of Gijon almost doubles in size with tourists—mainly Spanish tourists. (I don’t actually know the real numbers here, but it feels like it pretty much doubles.) It's good to see the city so alive and there’re lots of different festivals going on, music concerts, street performers, etc, that make the month a lot of fun. But I’ll admit, once September rolls around, I am thoroughly excited to have my city back to just my city again.
Let’s start with relaxing. Often all I want to do the first days of holiday and time off for me is sleep and just chill. This isn’t usually what happens, as usually we jump straight into a fun adventure, but my body yearns for some tune-out the world for a bit and just relax time. And I’ve found that if I don’t take time to relax at least a little before-hand, I’m pretty much a zombie by the end of our travels. Because of this, I do try to at least incorporate a few moments of total rest with something like Yoga Nidra. This helps me rejuvenate for the upcoming adventures and when they’re over I don’t feel quite as drained.
There are many Yoga Nidra out there, but if you want to join me in a short Yoga Nidra for soothing and rejuvenating the body you can listen to it here:
If you’d like to join me for a longer Yoga Nidra that you can do whenever you need it, I have some for rent in the Tytoni Online Studio, or if you have a membership you can gain access to them as part of you membership:
