“I wanna be the one to walk in the sun

Oh girls, they wanna have fun

Ho hoo girls just wanna have

That's all they really want

Is some fun

When the workin' day is done

Oh girls, they wanna have fun”

As I sit down to write this, Cyndi Lauper’s Girls Just Want To Have Fun song has seemingly gotten stuck on repeat in my head.

An oldie but definitely a goodie; and truthfully, I think the message is incredibly important. We need to have fun to live a healthy, happy, joyful life. I mean, not just girls, everyone be it human, pet, or some other animal, needs to have fun.

Having fun helps us laugh, smile, release tension, connect with others. When we do things that we enjoy, we release happy endorphins into our body. It helps us physically and mentally. And we often share that happiness with those around us.

When you’re feeling fatigued, sluggish, burned out, doing something fun can help give you a boost.

Now, obviously we need to go back to being sure that we are pacing ourselves and not over doing everything. But it’s about creating a healthy balance between work, responsibilities and having fun.

That balance isn’t always easy to create and it can be incredibly helpful for us to ask for support to create it. Asking for support is the last tool this month that I will share with you to support fatigue, and our mental health in general. That support can come from friends, family members, colleagues, and professionals.

If you ever need any support and feel I can help you, please reach out. I will do my best to help you as best I can and if I feel it’s out of my scope of practice, I will help you find someone that could be a better fit.

July breaks its merry way into our lives this week! And with it we’re starting a new chapter: Joy!

I’m calling it Joyful July. And each week in the Yoga for Pandemic Fatigue, Stress, Anxiety and Long COVID Facebook group I’ll be offering tools that we can use to inspire and manifest joy in our life. At the end of each week I’ll be checking in to see how they’ve worked for you and what you’ve noticed. If you want to join us, head on over to the Facebook group!
