Autumn is my favorite season. Don’t get me wrong, I love all seasons. I appreciate the changes between the seasons as it helps remind me that life continues to progress, no matter what is going on in my day-to-day. But autumn holds a special place in my heart.

I absolutely love the change in nature. For example the colors in the trees going from the deep summer green, to the golds, reds and browns of autumn. Or the murmurations of birds overhead. I adore the crunching of dry leaves underfoot, it always makes me feel like a kid again. I like the change of temperature as well, the note of crispness in the air. I also value the reminder that letting go doesn’t mean I lose something, instead it allows for reset and growth.

It can often be beneficial to have something in our life to remind us that it’s okay to let go. Many of us, myself included, tend to hold onto things for far too long and it causes disease within the body and mind. For me, watching the trees shed their leaves in autumn is beautiful reminder that I can let go of things that no longer benefit me, that weigh me down and keep me from living my fullest.

Letting go can be done in many different ways: releasing the physical manifestation of stressors in the body (i.e. tension); stretching and strengthening the body to reduce discomfort and pain; using mindfulness and awareness to connect with the present and visualize release; breathing to let go and reduce the fight/flight response so we can feel more balanced and calm; and so on.

What are some of the benefits for letting go?

  • Releases tension
  • Helps manage stress and anxiety
  • Reduces back and pelvic pain
  • Relieves headaches
  • Enables balanced nervous system responses
  • Improves sleep

If you would like guidance in how to do this through movement, breath and mindfulness practices, please don’t hesitate to reach out. I currently have openings for 3 new private clients, so if you’ve been looking for that personalized extra support and hand to hold as you work on releasing and letting go, send me a message!

If you’re looking for something right now, I recorded a 4-minute visualization meditation for letting go. You can listen to it on YouTube.
