Meditation For Noticing The Present And Being In Awe Of The Here And Now

Do you struggle to connect with the present? Do you often find yourself so caught up in your thoughts that you forget to really notice what is going on RIGHT NOW and be appreciative of the moment you are currently living?
This is something I’ve struggled with over the years. I always wanted to be at the next point, or I got caught up in thinking about what comes next, and I rarely took time to pause and really be in awe of the here and now.
What do I mean by that?

It’s like that moment when you’re walking down a familiar street and the clouds seem to lift and a beam of light shines brightly on a building that you’ve walked by every day for years. But in that moment it suddenly grows sharp in your vision. You notice beauty in the building you’ve never seen before. You may even turn to your friend walking next to you and say, did they do something different to that building? No, it’s the same. But because you’re fully present, you notice its beauty more than you ever did before.
Since beginning my healing journey one of the things I have become aware of is that, through my practices of grounding, connecting with myself compassionately and taking time to pause, I have these moments more often. In a cliché sort of way, the world around me seems to be brighter and more colorful. And while yes there have been some pretty difficult things happening in my life and in the world around me, I am better able to notice and be aware of the beauty around me.
Recently I wrote for the popular online magazine, Hip & Healthy, about various ways we can bring meditation into our daily life to help us pause, ground and bring focus to the present moment. The article is titled, “This Is How To Meditate When You Think You Can’t,” and that’s exactly what I address: Easy, accessible ways to bring yourself into the here and now. The more we do this, the more we have those bight, shiny moments of clarity and awe.
It doesn’t have to be long, it doesn’t have to take hours, it really is in the seconds or few short minutes of pauses that help us the most.
I invite you to read the article and see which meditation style best works for you right now. Try the meditation out over the course of a week, maybe doing it a couple minutes each day, and see the differences it makes. And I’d love to hear how it goes for you! Send me a message and let me know.
