The buds and blooms on my terrace this morning.
The buds and blooms on my terrace this morning.

It’s My Turn

I’m always amazed by plants.

I’m amazed by their ability

to decide —

It’s my turn!

It’s my turn to grow.

It’s my turn to bloom.

It’s my turn to show off my colors.

It’s my turn to step back.

It’s my turn to let go.

It’s my turn to rest.

And I rest.

So I can do it all again.

There are years that I’m scared

for them

because they seem to do things

prematurely.

They start acting before I think they should.

“It’s my turn!” They say.

And I whisper back,

“No, not yet! Wait a little longer!”

But in their natural conviction

they do not listen.

And more often than not

they do fine.

More often than not they take their

turn to grow.

turn to bloom.

turn to show off their colors.

turn to step back.

turn to rest.

And they rest.

So they can do it all again.

I can only imagine

that plants are the true masters

of Life.

I imagine them as little spirits

feet rooted into the earth,

hands reaching into the sky.

Their robes different shades of

green

brown

red

silver

and white.

The spirits listen

to the Earth. to the sun. to the heat.

to the sky. to the rain. to the cold.

to the whispers of the wind.

They do not live in the

past

nor the future.

They constantly dwell in the

present.

And when they deem

the time is RIGHT

even when others say, “wait!”

The plant spirits say,

It’s my turn!

It’s my turn to grow.

It’s my turn to bloom.

It’s my turn to show off my colors.

It’s my turn to step back.

It’s my turn to let go.

It’s my turn to rest.

And I rest.

So I can do it all again.

I woke up to Spring landing on my terrace, with my little daffodils starting to bloom and many of my other plants sending out buds, flowering or even fruiting! It’s January 9th. Um, what!??

This is my journal entry today.

I often write my thoughts out in poems. Usually they’re inspired by the nature I spot from my terrace, or other life events in my life or in those who are close to me.

I don’t write in my journal everyday. I try to write at least once a week.

I’m looking forward to my upcoming course, Breathe Free, because we’ll be working on journaling and adding it into our self-care routines. And I’ll be doing it along with you, because it’s something that I’m still working on.

“Fill your paper with the breathings of your heart.” - William Wordsworth

A colleague of mine recently posted this quote on her instagram and her struggles with daily journaling. However, through her experience with daily journaling and trying to write honestly from the heart she was able to uncover truths she had been avoiding and it gave her realization that she needed extra support. To which she reached out for.

I completely identify with her struggle and her discovery. And the reasons she gave about the importance or journaling are incredibly true. Let me share them with you:

“I realise that not everyone has as much to unpack as I did, but I have learnt that journaling is a wonderful tool for reflection and certainly in my case, healing. Putting our thoughts and experiences on paper can help in so many ways, including:

  • It can help a person set goals and work towards attaining them
  • Give them time and space for reflection
  • Relieve stress and overwhelm by providing an emotional outlet
  • Track menstrual/ menopausal symptoms which might help to manage them
  • Journaling at bedtime can aid sleep by clearing the mind
  • Develop creative writing
  • Clarity and helps deal with brain fog
  • Provides an opportunity to understand yourself better.

Who knew that putting pen to paper could be so powerful?”
