Different can Make a Difference
Tess Jewell-Larsen | MAY 29, 2022
While on this last weekend’s Yogatrek retreat, one of the women that joined us brought up how beautiful doing something different can be.
This woman joined our first ever Yogatrek last year, having never done yoga before, having never wild camped before, not knowing anyone else that was going on the retreat, but thought, hey I want to try out something different. She had many people tell her before and after she went that they thought what she was crazy, “One woman even said that I needed to be careful that I wasn’t dragged into a cult!”
But she came anyway and she loved every minute of it. (And no, she wasn’t abducted into any cult!) She said it had been such a special experience for her and it made her realize how incredibly important trying new things out is and how good for people it can be. So much so, she returned this year with her partner, who also had never done yoga nor wild camped before; but as she had enjoyed it so much the year before, he decided to try it out. He told me yesterday that he was really happy he had, that it was fun to try out something different and he really enjoyed it.

To give a bit of background just in case you haven’t heard of these Yogatrek before, I work with a local mountain guide here in Asturias, Rubén from Picos Outdoor, to take people up to the mountains to hike and do yoga in some of the most beautiful natural spaces in Spain. Asturias is known as Spain’s Natural Paradise for a reason! We hike to a spot where we either wild camp or stay in a mountain refuge and along the way we stop various times in spectacular places to do yoga: breath work, mindful movement, and meditation. On the treks we’ve had the spectacular opportunity to do yoga right alongside grazing cows, had deer come to visit, chamois chance a short grace, and big birds of prey glide over head. It’s really a magical experience.
It was such a compliment and I absolutely loved her comment about how important it is for people to try new things. We learn so much about ourselves and the world when we switch things up and do something different.
If you’re in Asturias, or ever decide to come visit, we’d love to have you join us on a Yogatrek. Click for the dates we’re offering this year: Yogatrek Asturias 2022
But if that isn’t in the cards this year, I have another way you can join me in doing yoga around Asturias and its spectacular natural locations: Roadshow Yoga in Asturias.
Roadshow Yoga in Asturias is an on-demand 4-week series offering you eight 30-min yoga videos in different locations around Asturias, sharing the natural beauty plus gentle yoga sequences: breathwork, mindful movement and meditation. At the beginning of each session I also share a little information about the location and a fun titbit about Asturias, so you can feel more connected to the place you’re virtually joining me in.
You can sign up for Roadshow Yoga in Asturias on its own for the month or you get unlimited access to it as part of the Monthly Memberships (both the Tytoni Membership and the On-Demand Membership).
Or join the monthly membership!
What will you do to break up the norm, and do something different in your life?
